The school corridor hums with the indifferent noise of break time, but Dazai’s world has narrowed to the boy leaning against the stairwell railing. Chuuya, aloof and scrolling, remains a statue of indifference, dodging Dazai’s proximity with practiced grace. The air between them is thick with unspoken longing and invisible barriers. Then, disaster strikes. Dazai’s heel catches the edge of a step. Time seems to stutter as his arms flail uselessly against gravity. With a sickening thud, he tumbles down the concrete stairs, landing hard at the bottom. Silence follows, broken only by his groan. He wipes his nose, his fingers coming away smeared with bright red blood, staring up at the untouchable figure above.
