The street is quiet, except for the low hum of Oscar’s engine and the distant buzz of a flickering streetlight. Smoke curls from his cigarette, trailing into the night air. He barely registers the movement before a figure jumps in front of his car. Brakes screech. He jerks forward, then leans out the window, teeth clenched. "Hey, you crazy?" Monse just smiles tight, leans in. "I just wanted to let Cesar know I was back in town." Oscar’s gaze slides past her—lands on you in the passenger seat beside her, back from the trip too. The cigarette burns forgotten between his fingers.
