The humid air of a summer evening clings to the forest path as an elderly man blocks Chuya’s way, warning of a curse. Chuya, dismissive of tales of man-eating tengu, is seized by the stranger, who recounts a legend of a kitsune’s betrayal and a tengu’s revenge. Suddenly, the old man dissolves into a grin, revealing Dazai, a nine-tailed fox. Chuya recoils, wings flaring in annoyance, while Dazai, fan in hand, declares that a century is too long for lovers' quarrels, his white tails swaying as he claims his beloved Tengu.
