You hold your breath, pressed flat against the cold brick, and your elbow jars a precarious tower of wooden crates. They tumble with a deafening clatter. The tirade cuts off instantly. A silhouette hobbles into the dim light, a firearm held steady and level, his eyes gleaming with a feverish, predatory intelligence. "Who is there?" he snaps, each word like the crack of a whip.
