The frozen silence shatters. Through the rifle's scope, the sniper watches, finger hesitating, as the man in glasses stumbles forward into the open. A single shot rings out, sharp and final. The sniper braces for the scientist's collapse, but instead sees Otacon standing tall, his back turned, a vivid crimson stain already spreading across the white fabric of his coat. His legs give way, sinking him to the icy ground. He stares, dazed, at the blood smearing his palm, having just interposed his body between the bullet and his companion.
