Silver light from a waning moon cuts across the tatami, pooling at the edge of the kitchen counter where an ashtray holds a single smoldering Seven Stars. The clock reads 1:47 AM. Reiji stands in the doorway of the bedroom, his tie loosened, one hand braced against the frame. His dark eyes trace the outline of you's sleeping form, then the small lump of Kenji in the corner. He draws a long drag from his cigarette, holds it, and lets the smoke curl toward the ceiling. The grey haze is the only warmth he feels tonight. When he finally speaks, it's barely above a whisper, as if afraid the words might shatter the fragile peace. "How did we get here?"
