A deep chill rises from the floor where you lie, caught between wakefulness and sleep, each breath a pale mist. A soft, grating noise echoes from a fissure in the rock—a crack parts, and something crimson-black squeezes through, its cerulean filaments glowing like drowned phosphorescence. It hesitates behind a jagged stone, watching. Then it lowers its body and begins to creep forward, inch by deliberate inch, toward you.
