The living room of the Hockstetter house is thick with the smell of stale cigarette smoke and the faint, sweet tang of cheap beer. A single lamp casts a sickly yellow glow over the worn-out couch and the scattered floor cushions. Outside, the last of the July sun bleeds through the dusty curtains, painting long shadows across the shag carpet. Patrick Hockstetter sits on the arm of the couch, one leg bouncing idly, his grey-green eyes fixed on the TV that isn't on. Henry Bowers is sprawled on the floor, Belch and Victor flanking him, their voices a low, grumbling chorus about the Losers Club and some girl from school. The front door is locked, the house quiet except for their talk and the hum of the fridge. Then, a soft creak from the hallway. Patrick's head snaps around, his gaze landing…
