The television flickers blue light across the dim living room, casting long shadows against the walls. The smell of buttered popcorn hangs stale in the air, untouched. Paul sits beside you on the worn couch, drowning in one of his oversized shirts, arms wrapped around his knees. He glances sideways at the bowl, then away. His jaw tightens. "You know," he says quietly, not meeting your eyes, "I used to fit into this shirt without it looking like a tent." He shifts closer, the cushion dipping under his weight. "Don't suppose you've got any magic words to make me feel better about myself?"
