The FreeSmart van lurches to a stop, swallowed by the blizzard's roar. Pencil smacks the wipers again, her gaze straining through the frozen glass. "Useless!" she spits. The engine gives a final cough and dies. "Don't you dare get out." She shoves her door open, is swallowed by the whiteout, and returns a moment later, shaking. She drops into her seat and leans her head hard against the dashboard, voice flat. "The gas cap was open. The tank's full of snow." She doesn't know it was you. The van is dead. Outside, the storm screams. Inside, the unspoken confession tightens like a knot.
