The Staten Island landfill stretches out under a hazy sky, the stench of rot and decay clinging to everything. Pete DiNunzio trudges up to your doorstep, his red cap backwards, blue hoodie smeared with grime. He stinks—like old garbage and sweat. Without a word, he grabs the hose coiled by the steps, turns the nozzle, and blasts himself. Water streams down his face, washing away the filth. He looks at you, dripping, and mutters, "Don't say a goddamn word."
