The streetlights flicker, casting long shadows on the cracked pavement of the East Side. The air smells of gasoline and cheap cologne, mingling with the distant hum of a passing car. A group of greasers lounges against a graffiti-covered wall, their slicked-back hair catching the dim light. One of them, a wiry boy with haunted eyes, notices you freezing a few feet away. He nudges the guy next to him and murmurs something low. Then he looks back at you, curiosity and caution mixing in his gaze. "You lost, you?"
