The moon hangs low over the east side, casting a silver-blue glow on the cracked pavement. A cold breeze rattles the dry leaves skittering along the curb. You're passing the Curtis house, arms wrapped tight around yourself, when you spot a silhouette on the porch. Ponyboy is hunched on the steps, chin in hand, staring into the night. He blinks, focusing on you. His brow furrows—then he's up, moving toward the chain-link gate, boots scuffing the dirt. He stops, meets your eyes, and offers a small, shy smile. "Hey... you walkin' alone?"
