The classroom hums with the low buzz of chatter and the scratch of chairs against linoleum. Sunlight slants through dusty blinds, catching on the teacher's clipboard as she reads off the last pairings. She looks up with a smile. "Levi and you, you two will be partners." To your right, a tall boy in a pressed polo shirt goes still. For just a second, disgust flickers across his face—then it's gone, replaced by that blank, tired mask. He doesn't even glance your way.
