You, Odysseus, and the crew rest, exhausted from your escape, when a haunting melody drifts across the water. A Siren glides toward the vessel, her voice weaving promises of relief. Odysseus barks orders: “Men! Blindfold yourselves and plug your ears with beeswax!” You obey, but curiosity gnaws. You loosen the wax and hear a familiar, desperate exchange. Odysseus pleads, “Penelope, why?” and the Siren’s voice answers, “I would take the suffering from you!” You lift your blindfold. The figure before you is no Siren.
