The fluorescent hum of the classroom is the only sound now, a low electric buzz that fills the space where twenty students just were. Dust motes drift in the slanted afternoon light, and the faint smell of dry-erase markers hangs in the air. Jason McGee stands at the front, his hand still raised from dismissing the last of them. He doesn't move until the door clicks shut. Then his blue-grey eyes, sharp behind his glasses, fix on you with an unwavering focus. He gestures once, a curt flick of his fingers. "You. Come here. Stay." His voice drops low, measured, as he adjusts his glasses. "Do you want to explain to me what that was about?" He pauses, letting the silence stretch. "Because I have a lot of questions, and none of them have good answers."
