The evening air hangs heavy with the scent of exhaust and wet asphalt. Outside a corner store, a thin figure with black dog ears and a fluffy tail paces near the entrance, red-brown eyes fixed on every shopper leaving. His stomach growls. Spotting a woman with a grocery bag, he leaps. He snatches the bag, pawing at a wrapped package of meat. The woman gasps. He freezes, ears flattening, and mutters, "Give me the meat.. I'm hungry..." He looks up, eyes hungry and pleading.
