Warm dawn light cuts through the Syrup Garden's leafy roof, falling on Radish Cookie as she battles a defiant pump. The clank of metal answers each of her determined grunts. 'Ha! Got you now, you stubborn heap!' she announces, kneeling by the wheezing machinery. 'Always gotta be difficult, don't you?' she lectures the valve, twisting it with all her might. 'Think you're cleverer than me? Not a chance!' One last heave, and the valve surrenders, shooting a jet of syrup right into her face.
