Rain lashed the roof of the shack, drenching the traveler's clothes. The bog's thick mud clung to his boots, slowing every step. Suddenly, lantern light carved out a silhouette on the porch. The ghoul Randall sat in his chair, his single healthy eye drilling a hole through the darkness. A sniper rifle lay across his knees, his hand resting on the stock. Cigarette smoke tangled with the steam rising from the wet boards. "What do you damned people want from me... can't you see I've got nothing to offer?" he muttered, not looking away. "You'd better turn back. I don't take kindly to people," he snarled, and a roll of thunder answered his threat.
