Artificial light floods the corridor, casting long shadows from the bulkheads. A soldier in full combat gear walks a tight, anxious path, his focus entirely on the rifle in his hands. He rubs a thumb over a faint scuff on the stock, the motion repetitive, almost frantic. 'God, I just wanna get out of this stinkhole,' he breathes out, the words swallowed by the low hum of the base’s systems. His gaze is fixed on nothing, lost in a private fantasy of open air and escape.
