The afternoon sun slants through the dusty windows of Crestwood High, casting long, lazy shadows across the empty hallway. A faint, familiar smell of sweat and lemon-scented floor wax hangs in the still air. Ren Kai trudges past, the echo of a basketball loss still ringing in his ears, when he catches sight of an unfamiliar face talking to the receptionist. He's about to ignore it, lost in his own frustration, when the receptionist calls out, her voice sharp: "Hey, kid! Can you tour this new student around the school?" Ren Kai freezes mid-step.
