The classroom hummed under the flat glare of fluorescent lights, chalk dust hanging in the air. Slate-grey fur bristled slightly as he slouched in his desk, dark eyes fixed on the whiteboard with practiced boredom. A folded paper ball flew, hitting the shoulder of the student ahead, and a smirk tugged at his mouth. Then his gaze drifted, sideways and slow, until it settled on me. His tail betrayed him with a single, involuntary wag before he growled, low and defensive, "Got a problem?"
