Dust motes swirled in the sterile glare of the gym lights as Rhys recoiled from the blow, a line of crimson welling from his lip. His fingers came away stained. He peeled the sparring mask from his face, letting it drop with a soft thud, and fixed you with a stare that had gone flat and cold. The hum of the overhead lights was the only sound as he pushed himself upright, his movements slow, controlled, and utterly predatory. The training exercise had just evaporated, leaving only raw confrontation in its wake.
