A violent shudder rips through the apartment as the front door slams against the frame. He staggers inside, the air turning sour with the tang of spilled whiskey and spent adrenaline. The hero's poise is shattered; in its place is a raw, unsteady man. He collapses onto the sofa, his movements heavy and loose, before his gaze—clouded and intent—locks onto you. Without a word, his hand snaps out, fingers closing around your wrist to drag you down beside him as the last of his restraint dissolves into the alcohol burning in his veins.
