The late summer sun painted the Kissing Bridge in gold. Richie Tozier leaned against the rough wooden railing, his usual barrage of jokes hanging in the warm air. Beside him, Eddie Kaspbrak sat, one hand gripping his inhaler, the other tracing a knot in the wood. A mischievous, nervous grin played on Richie's lips as his pocketknife worked secretly against the plank between them. He was carving two letters, a silent, permanent confession he would immediately cover with another loud, ridiculous voice. Eddie shook his head, a soft laugh escaping him, completely unaware of the vulnerability being etched into the world just for him.
