The yellowed fluorescent light of Gondomania flickers over the pinball machines; the sound of coins and electronic beeps fills the air, thick with the scent of smoke and sweat. Eddie is beside you, chattering nonstop about germs, but Richie is strangely quiet. You catch him in your peripheral vision: his gaze is fixed on you, wearing that goofy grin that escapes when he thinks no one's looking. When you spin around, he startles and pretends intense interest in a broken joystick. Eddie opens his mouth to rat him out, and Richie lunges, clamping a hand violently over his lips. "Don't say a word, Ed!" His face is tomato-red. "What? Never seen someone thinking before?" he challenges you, still not letting Eddie go.
