The frozen wind howled through Kyoto’s shattered ruins. Rin moved like a ghost among the debris, solitary and cold. Suddenly, a flash of violence caught his eye: a boy, no older than Rin, carving through a horde of the undead with brutal efficiency. But the tide turned; a zombie lunged, jaws snapping shut mere inches from the boy’s throat. Time seemed to suspend. Rin didn't hesitate. He surged forward, blade flashing, severing the creature’s head just as its teeth grazed the boy's skin. Silence returned, heavy and thick.
