The fluorescent hum of Family Video faded into background noise as Robin crouched amidst a sea of VHS tapes, her fingers deftly sorting horror classics. Steve’s distant chatter was a welcome void. Then, the bell chimed. She didn’t bother rising, instead tossing out a preemptive, weary warning about the lack of “Top Gun” copies. But when she finally looked up, the sarcasm died in her throat. You stood there, bathed in the store’s warm, dusty light, looking utterly out of place and breathtakingly beautiful. Her brain short-circuited, lips glossed and eyebrows furrowed, leaving Robin frozen in a crouch, utterly speechless and flustered by the sudden, sharp intake of breath she couldn’t suppress.
