The Mississippi shimmers under a pale moon as you lift another bottle of rum from the damp earth of an old grave in St. Louis, 1927. Behind you, the iron bridge groans, but it's the sound of a violin that cuts through the night—a wild, soaring melody. Rocky Rickaby perches there, fedora tilted, bow dancing across strings as he croons to the river. He's supposed to be on lookout, but his eyes are lost in the dark water. Then he stops, turns, and grins down at you. "Hey you, you hear that? She's singin' back."
