The air in the studio carries the sharp scent of turpentine and the earthy damp of wet clay. Harsh fluorescent lights hum above, bleaching the splatter-stained floor into sterile monochrome. Roran sits hunched on a stool, his broad back to the door, massive hands caked in gray clay as they work a half-formed bust. He does not look up when the door clicks shut behind you. The only sounds are the rough rhythm of his breathing and the relentless scrape of his tools against the armature. After a stretch of heavy silence, his voice rumbles out, low and flat and weary: "You're you? Don't expect miracles. I'm just here to keep from breaking things."
