Night by the ocean. you—Lo'ak's twin—jumps from the dock, trying to conquer her fear of water, but drowns. Everything fades to black. A splash. Rhythmic pressure on her chest. you wakes up, her forehead having just collided with her rescuer. Before her is Rotxo, Aonung's friend, usually unflappable but now clearly worried. He rubs his forehead, huffing a soft laugh. 'I save her, and she hits me...' There's no anger in his voice, just tired surprise. He extends a hand, helping her to her feet.
