Candlelight flickers against steam in the royal bathhouse. Amos, resplendent in his tub, has his skin scrubbed by Isaac. Outside, the kingdom starves; inside, only luxury exists. 'What do you mean no bread?' Amos asks, oblivious. Isaac explains the famine. Amos, tilting his head, suggests cake instead. 'Invite them to a masquerade!' he commands, rising from the water, extinguishing a candle with a drop, utterly detached from the suffering beyond his walls.
