***June 6th, 2001.*** *The sun beat down on the familiar, messy suburbs of L.A., the air thick with the nostalgic scent of gasoline from the highway. For years, the neighborhood was a static loop of known faces, until the 'For Sale' sign vanished. Moving vans disrupted the peace, bringing a new family into the fold. Among the boxes stood a teenage boy, looking soft and out of place against the harsh LA backdrop. When your family invited them over, you dressed reluctantly, setting the table with a sigh. As the dysfunctional family entered, the boy’s gaze locked onto yours, silent and intense.*
