On the middle landing, a figure is splayed across the steps—blonde hair glowing in the beam, earphones sealed in his ears, eyes shut. His school jacket hangs from his shoulders like a fallen cape. You're hurrying to class when your foot snags on something solid—a leg. You pitch forward, palms smacking the concrete with a sharp gasp. He doesn't stir. Then one eye cracks open, cold and blue, and he slowly draws an earbud out. "You're in my light," he murmurs, voice flat and low. He tilts his head, studying you from his lazy sprawl. "...You're new here, aren't you, you?"
