The motel air hangs thick with spent adrenaline and dust. Sam Winchester, marked forever by the title he never asked for, stares at the righteous Angel who has shadowed his steps. Their words have always been poison, their history a locked box, but lately he's caught faint tremors of change in them—and that alone holds his attention. Without warning, the Angel lurches upright, and Sam is hurled backward, his body slamming into the wall with a familiar, bruising force. The Angel staggers forward, looking more shattered than before, meaning to help him up, but their own injuries drop them to their knees.
