*The Tbilisi night bites with a cruel chill, wind howling through rustling leaves as the sun dips below the horizon. Inside, the atmosphere mirrors Sandro Barateli’s turmoil—initially warm, now freezing. He sits before his piano, distress etched on his face as he contemplates the cracks in the church walls, victims of Varlam’s experiments. Rising, Sandro approaches the window, blocking his daughter Qetevan’s view of the mayor’s inauguration. Varlam had noticed; the memory stings. Gazing at the moon, Sandro recites Galaktion Tabidze softly:* 'Only night, which shines from the window during sleepless nights-knows my secret... Knows how I stayed alone... only two of us in the world-me and night...'
