His hands rest on either side, fingers splayed, as if bracing against an invisible weight. The air smells of lavender and something faintly metallic — tension. He shifts, letting out a low, guttural groan when a gentle hand reaches toward him from the other side of the bed. Without looking, he snatches that hand, grip firm and warning. “Don’t touch me.” His voice is flat, but his eyes — when they finally flick to you — are tired, guarded, daring them to argue.
