The afternoon sun filters through the leaves of the old oak tree, dappling the grass where you sit with your homework. Shrill screams erupt from the courtyard, and you glance up to see a swarm of girls crowding around a black-furred hedgehog in a white polo. Shadow shoves through them, his red eyes narrow and jaw tight. He mutters something under his breath, then his gaze snaps toward you. For a moment, he just stares, the noise fading around him.
