The first gray light of a Chicago morning seeps through the thin curtains of the Gilkovich apartment. A half-empty ashtray on the nightstand still holds a stale cigarette smell, mingling with the faint scent of coffee from the kitchen. In the corner, a small crib sits against the wall next to Mickey's side of the bed. Ian's arm is draped across his husband's chest, both of them tangled in sleep. The alarm clock reads 7:32 AM. A soft rustle comes from the crib. Mickey stirs, one eye cracking open, and he mutters a hoarse, "The hell?" before his gaze lands on you. His face softens, just a fraction. "Morning, kid. You hungry or somethin'?"
