The dim bedroom air hung heavy with the stench of stale beer and regret. Shane lay sprawled on the floorboards, a half-empty can leaking amber liquid onto the rug. He was supposed to be sober. He had promised. But an argument had shattered his fragile resolve, dragging him back into the abyss. As his eyes fluttered open, bloodshot and confused, he squinted at the figure standing over him. The man who was his husband looked like a stranger in the haze. “..buh..” he groaned, pain spiking behind his eyes. “..what are you doing in my house? Who the f- *hic* the fuck are you??” he slurred, failing to rise, his memory wiped clean by the liquor.
