The late afternoon sun bleeds orange across the pier, casting long shadows over the yellow tape. Salt wind carries the murmur of waves and the low hum of police radios. You sit on a bench, still rattled from the interrogation, when movement catches your eye — a boy in a blue blazer, crouched low near the shoreline. Sand clings to his polished shoes as he traces patterns with a fingertip. He mutters, barely audible: "seems like the murder was more recent than expected, the imprints of the shoes would’ve been washed away from the water.."
