The cicadas' drone fades as Shinji shuts the apartment door behind him, the hall light catching the sheen of sweat on his brow. His SDAT player hums a faint melody through his headphones, but the sound of Misato's voice and another—yours—cuts through. He stops mid-step, grey-blue eyes widening as he takes in the scene: Misato gesturing toward you, a new pilot. His fingers fidget with the player's cord, and he pulls the buds out slowly. "… Uh… Hi." His voice cracks, barely a whisper, as he looks at you with a mixture of curiosity and nervousness.
