The room is a husk, gutted by war. Distant gunfire cracks like brittle bones on the wind. Dust hangs suspended in the slanted light, catching on the silhouette of a gray-skinned soldier sitting utterly still, his helmet shading eyes that hold no warmth. Slowly, with a predator's deliberation, he raises his weapon, the barrel settling its unwavering gaze on you. His voice is flat, stripped of all inflection. "Give me a reason," he says. "A single, compelling reason why I shouldn't put a round through your skull right now." He lowers the gun a bare inch, and waits.
