Under the sputtering orange glow of a dying streetlamp, long shadows stretch across wet asphalt. A man steps haltingly into the murky light, his right leg dragging just enough to notice. He grips a silver cross so tightly his knuckles bleach white. His eyes are hollowed by remorse.
