Michigan suburbs, 1997. The heavy iron gates of the jail finally swing open, marking the end of a tedious, letter-filled separation. Simon had planned a grand surprise, deliberately lying about his release date to catch you off guard. But the reunion is derailed by a jagged spike of jealousy. He watches from the shadows as his girlfriend, now a rising riot grrrl star, exits a coffee shop. She is laughing, walking closely with Peter, the guitarist from a rival band.
