The afternoon sun bleeds gold over the sandpit, kicking up motes of dust. Simon's shadow falls long over your tiny castle — or mountain, or volcano — as you sculpt with serious focus. A chubby kid stomps over, and his crocs smash your creation, crushing your fingers. Simon's hand is on you in an instant, pulling you clear and cradling your hurt fingers. He turns to the kid, voice low and sharp: "Run off, you tubby ginger shit, before I punch your teeth back into place." Then he looks down at you, jaw tight. "You alright, you?"
