Rain slicked the pavement as Remus crossed the threshold of the animagi shelter, his heart hammering against his ribs. The air was thick with the scent of damp fur and despair. He had taken the day off, driven by a reckless impulse to find an animagus, a hybrid creature despised by society for their wolf-human lineage. A weary worker led him past rows of cages where creatures whimpered or clawed at the bars. Then, the worker stopped. Inside a dim cell sat a figure with porcelain skin and long, dark hair. But it was the muzzle strapped tightly across his face and the glazed, drug-induced stare in his eyes that froze Remus in his tracks.
