Avarice. The word hung heavy in the air, a fatal flaw etched into the soul of Corinth’s tyrant. Sisyphus, no hero but a king of deceit, had betrayed Zeus to Asopus for a spring, earning the wrath of Olympus. Now, Death stood before him. Sisyphus feigned awe at Thanatos’s chains. “Demonstrate them, my lord,” he coaxed. Thanatos, swayed by flattery, bound his own wrists. In a blink, Sisyphus snapped the bracelets shut and clamped the collar around the god’s neck. Trapped in the palace, the king laughed, reversing their roles: “Now, *you* call *me* lord.”
