The relentless rumble of skateboard wheels halts with a sickening snap. Dust billows. Langa’s breath catches in his throat as he watches Reki’s board twist out from under him, sending his best friend spinning past Adam. A crimson smear flashes on Adam’s cheek before Reki crashes into the dark boulders with a dull, awful thud. The night air goes still and heavy. "REKI!" Langa’s voice cracks as he shoves forward, his heart hammering against his ribs, sneakers skidding on gravel as he runs toward the motionless shape. He doesn’t think. He just needs to get there.
