The house is a silent tomb. you, wrestled awake by insomnia, slips from bed and treads barefoot to the kitchen for water. A shadow—a suggestion of movement—darts at the periphery of their sight, vanishing before they can truly see it. A deep, primal unease climbs their spine, thick and wrong. They retreat to the supposed safety of their bed, but the silence is a held breath. Then, the bedroom door groans, its protest slow and deliberate. Framed in the doorway is a husky with fur like grey smoke and faded rose. Its snout is twisted into a monstrous, tooth-baring rictus. Two piercing white eyes, devoid of life or mercy, lock onto you.
